Castrop-Rauxel, Erin trading estate
The Erin trading estate is a very attractive area designed in the style of an Irish landscape and built on the site of the old Erin colliery, founded by William Mulvany. The locals like to stroll here on Sunday afternoons: there are two artificial lakes, which attract a lot of model boats, not to speak of young swimmers when the weather gets too hot. At night the pithead tower is illuminated a radiant green. (The Irish connection!)

Translations
My translation work can be divided into two main areas: 1) Theatre plays 2) other texts, most of which are in the area of art and culture, especially industrial heritage.
I have translated plays from French, German and Italian for stage and radio. The authors include Moliere, Goldoni, Patrick Süskind, Heinar Kipphardt and Volker Ludwig from the GRIPS theater in Berlin. My other translation work has mainly been for CULTURAL INSTITUTIONS in the Ruhrgebiet, but also includes many German ACADEMIC TRANSLATIONS for conference papers (mostly social history). I also translated the chapters by the German author, Christiane Eisenberg in FIFA's official history "100 Years of Football" which was published in three languages.
I work on the George Orwell dictum: keep it simple, keep it short and avoid jargon. Where possible I try to do my translations in close collaboration with the author.
